Care Group Program
Our Care Group programs are carefully designed to meet the needs of girls at each year level. We focus on issues such as collaboration, friendships, bullying, harassment, cyber safety, rights and responsibilities, citizenship, well-being, study skills, driver safety, goal setting, the world of work, future options, course counselling, etc. Students are also provided with year level activities such as camps, excursions, reflection days and community service days. Our programs are reviewed regularly.
Students with Special Needs
Our procedures are aimed at the integration of all students into a mainstream setting. Negotiated Education Plans are developed to assist students with disabilities which may affect their learning. Support staff are available to assist students with learning needs and teachers cater for students with a range of abilities in the classroom.
Assemblies
Students are involved regularly in speaking and performing at whole school, year level and special purpose assemblies that further support the development of confidence and communication skills.
Achievements
Mitcham has a strong academic focus and a record of achievement that is consistently above the state average. Each girl is supported to reach her full potential.
Our aim is for all girls to develop into confident, independent young women who can work cooperatively, think for themselves, take on leadership roles, make informed decisions and, ultimately, become responsible, global citizens.
Each year, Middle School Students perform well above average in the National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) tests.
The Year 12 students also achieve outstanding results each year. In 2008, for example, 95% of students achieved their SACE and 85% of applicants received an offer from Universities or TAFE.
